Welcome to California Ballet’s 48th Season!

Season48

Rehearsals are already underway for our first production, the West Coast premier of Septime Webre’s The Great Gatsby.  This production premiered at the Kennedy Center with the Washington Ballet. We’re very excited about the new choreography as well as some company promotions and many new dancers and guest artists.

We are honored to have Jared Nelson, former principal with the Washington Ballet and Kirsten Bloom Allen, former Sacramento Ballet principal, join us as guest artists for The Great Gatsby.  Jared originated the role of Jay Gatsby, and is re-staging the work on California Ballet Company.

We are proud to congratulate new Soloists Allyson Barkdull and Tess Lane on their recent promotions.   Former Company Apprentices Topaz Davis, Brigitte Edwards, and Rachel Cahayla-Wynne join us this season as members of our Corps de Ballet; Rachel returns to us after the birth of her son earlier this spring.

We are delighted to welcome back former CBC dancer Cody (Gibson) Toscano this season after the birth of her second child.

Joining us for their first seasons with CBC as Corps de Ballet dancers are Whitney Edwards, Kendra Wingfield, and Michaela Gould from San Diego, Tiffany Smith from New Hampshire, and Mary Jane Lance from Louisiana.  Our new Company Apprentices include Melissa Briggs, a New York native, and California Ballet School students Jordan Nasif and Danielle Dawson.

Though their departures are bittersweet, we are pleased to announce that former California Ballet Company dancers Jordan Bialock and Leila Mardoum have left us to pursue their college educations at Northeastern and New York University respectively, and former company dancer Tara Hutton is pursuing her career in the bay area with Bay Pointe Ballet.  We are certainly sad to see them all go, and we wish them the best in their new adventures!

Stay tuned throughout the coming weeks for spotlight articles on our new and guest dancers, a history of The Great Gatsby’s adaptation into a ballet, and sneak peaks of our rehearsal process.
